"Healthcare in a Perfect Storm: A Time for Telemedicine and Health Information Technology."

We face a time of remarkable challenges in healthcare. Upward spiraling costs during a period of economic downturn demanding changes in our healthcare system.  The need to consider new payment paradigms.  The desire to bring healthcare services to everyone at a time of increasing shortages of healthcare providers.  An aging population with associated chronic disease accompanied by the vision of aging in place.  Pressure to adopt and integrate electronic health records and health information exchange.  Exploring the concept of the patient-centered medical home and accountable care organizations.  Now, more than ever, emerging health information technologies can be an important part of the solution in navigating this "Perfect Storm"; providing greater access to healthcare, improving health outcomes, and reducing costs.  This is the time for Telemedicine and HIT!
