NMCRA Student Scholarship Honors Viola Tapia

Since 1994, the New Mexico Court Reporters Association has awarded a deserving student an education scholarship to assist with the costs of attending court reporting school.

The New Mexico Court Reporters Association would like to honor Viola Tapia in a way that will ensure her contributions to the profession are acknowledged and apprecitated by those currently in the profession and by those working toward becoming New Mexico Certified Court Reporters.

Viola was active in the New Mexico Court Reporters Association for many years and believed in giving back to her profession.  Viola served on the NMCRA Board and was its President in 1995.  Viola also served as Central Board Member, Treasurer, and President Elect for NMCRA.  In addition to her State contributions, Viola is a Registered Professional Reporter, a Certified Court Reporting Instructor, and a Certified Managing Reporter - all National designations awarded throughout her career.

Viola mentored many students throughout her 21-year career and could be providing "no nonsense" advice to new reporters working in the Court Reporting Division and to those students coming to our court field trips.  Viola would often go to local court reporting schools to encourage and motivate students to get involved in their profession and to urge them to give 100 % to their studies.

Viola worked as a freelance reporter, and in addition to working as an Official Court Reporter for the Second Judicial District Court, Viola worked for Judge Otero in the Thirteenth Judicial District.  We are happy to recognize Viola for her hard work and dedication to the court reporting profession and to our Court.
